In an earlier article we discussed active meditation. It is easy to see how one can re-balance the mind/body/spirit connection by using a meditative technique that engenders the relaxation response and uses rhythmic walking and mantras to divert the mind from problem-solving. The question then arises, is it possible to extend this technique to solve problems or to gain information to which we do not normally have access?
We have conducted a correspondence course on meditative techniques and communication1 for a combined total of nearly 80 years, and have taught over sixty-thousand pupils how to obtain such information. Experience with those students has convinced us that the answer to this question is yes. Not only that; but further, that everyone has some ability in this field.
When you want to extend meditation into areas where it can give you some positive help in life, you use meditative techniques which involve sitting passively, either waiting for information to flow, or meditating, as we say, "with seed"--having written down a question that is preying on your mind.
This leads to the question of reception of psychic communications through such experiences as telepathy, psychometry, and communication with those who have passed on. To examine this question, we will simplify today's discussion by addressing only four categories of possible sources of information.
1. The Mind - Time and again it has been proven that humans are amazingly astute observers. We pick up thousands of impressions, not necessarily at the conscious level but stored in deep levels of our mind--the so-called unconscious. Through meditation we can gain access to that stored information and cross-correlate it to give accurate answers to questions we may have. This is similar to what happens when we sleep, because dreams too present to us in graphic form information that we have received. Careful analysis of our dreams can lead us to appropriate solutions to our problems.
Thus if we sit passively in meditation, avoiding the niggling day-to-day do-list, we can access those hidden impressions. In a typical case let's say you have a decision to make regarding your career path. Are you going to be promoted--or fired? Or is the company going to go belly-up? Think of all the impressions that you may have gained from friends, co-workers, management, and news media about the future of your company and your role in it.
You could simply sit down and make yourself a chart of these impressions and come to some black-and-white (on paper) conclusion. This is what the mind seems able to do for you in meditation. We all have a lot more information in our heads than we normally have access to.
2. Telepathic Messages - It seems to us that the case for telepathy is well proven. Experiments conducted by the then Soviet Union and by the U. S. Navy on communication with atomic submarines strongly indicate that the mother-child connection can work to communicate over long distances. Most of the experiments were done many years ago using the connection between a mother rabbit and her babies. Our own extensive files contain hundreds of cases of parents becoming telepathically aware when their children have, for instance, vehicle accidents. So to us the case for telepathy, especially under stressful circumstances, is rock-solid.
Have you ever sat in a cinema waiting for a film to start, or stood in a long line at a cash register? Next time, look for someone ahead of you who is idling, not talking on their cell or chatting to a friend. See whether you can make that person turn around and look at you.
Going back to the question of your future in a given company as in 1. above, perhaps you can get more information by being open to telepathic communication from management that will give you an indication of their real intention. In interpersonal relations, telepathic communication seems able to add greatly to the depth and scope of the relationship by adding trust to the mix.
If we acknowledge telepathy, then we must also allow that all plants and animals are alive and can put out telepathic information in the same way that humans do. Many of our Native American friends tell us that the rocks can also talk to us. This moves us into the ability of many of us to read information that is impressed into objects or places by psychometrizing them.2
3. Communication from "the Other" - In this discussion "the other" means such things as communication from "ghosts" or discarnate entities. Many people use such devices as ouija boards or journaling (automatic writing) to receive communication from the "other". A caution: It is possible to become mildly possessed using such devices. Here apparently the spirit of an "other" can enter into, and can operate, the body of an incarnated being. Is possession just a defense mechanism in which someone can no longer face the life they live in, and wish to change it? The jury must remain out on this. We can tell you that when we, or a Catholic priest, shakes the feathers and rattles the gourds in an "exorcism", we can seemingly dispossess people--but are we only taking away the (probably unconscious) defense mechanism that helps the subject deal with an intolerable situation, or are we genuinely dispossessing them of an invading spirit?
You choose. We can argue either side of the question. In fact one blanket rule does not govern all cases. Given the infinite creativity of the human mind, we must approach each situation with a mind cleared of all assumptions and generalizations.
4. Astral Information - It has become quite clear that many of us have the ability to separate our consciousness from our mundane body. Part of our School's curriculum is a course on how to achieve this separation consciously and how to navigate the realms that become available to the astral traveler. Let us be quite clear: In our extensive experience, which builds on the work of the British Canterbury Institute, we believe that this is a true separation; though it can be argued that in fact it is another mind trick that allows us to accept information gained from past and future as well as spiritual knowledge.
In summary, there are several possibilities whereby in meditation we can get answers to our questions.
Reductio ad Simplicissimum
When you consider a case of new information coming in, always look for the most simple system that could have given the reported result. Take the case of a student in California reading code numbers locked in a safe in Washington3. Supposedly a proof of astral travel, yes; but a human entity typed those numbers, so presumably they could have been read telepathically.
At the time of writing we have to tell you that if we delete from these communications those which may in fact be simply from the worker's mind or received telepathically, then there still remains a small but appreciable percentage (in the case of the School's students, almost 18 percent) where such explanations do not fully account for the information received.
Whatever the source of communication, whether internal or from some other source, there is in fact information available to you which you can receive through meditation.
Because the impressions received from this information are weak, and the mind is easily distracted by (for instance) today's all-pervasive electronic devices, certain techniques are required to help you receive such information. We plan to address these techniques in a future article. Their validity depends on the hypothesis we make regarding the way the information is transferred.
Information Transfer Mechanisms.
In the case of simply extracting more information from the subconscious, there is no problem of getting information transferred. In considering telepathy and communication from "other", though, there is a definite physical problem with the amount of data apparently transferred and with the time span over which the data are received.
Under high levels of stress, telepathic communication does not require the transmission of a large amount of information; except that in some of our cases, detailed information on a fatal car crash has been received. The mechanics of the transmission has puzzled scientists for many years. The consensus is that it is some form of ULF (ultra-low frequency) radio wave or particle. As with light and with gravity, when asked, Is it a wave or a particle?, a scientist will respond "yes" or "both". Because physicists use the term "photons" to explain light and "gravitrons" to explain gravity, we have created the parallel term "realtrons" to describe these postulated particles. The relationship between wave and particle is complex and cannot be studied--because like Shrodinger's cat, they apparently exist in two states and to study one state destroys the other. The discussion then moves over into quantum mechanics and string theory--and at this point we beg to be excused.
The ULF electronic wave, where the information is coded by the phase relationship of the magnetic to the electrical component4, has gained favor, to such an extent that the U. S. Navy has built a ULF antenna--but has not yet tested it. There is a very real fear that it will affect the brains of people within its range of an estimated 1,000 miles. Sometimes scientists are wise not to pursue their experiments; for example, the recent idea of making a mini-black hole. (How do you stop it expanding forever?) Some genies simply should not be let out of the bottle.
Our explanation of the phenomena may be a simplistic one. Let us remember that information-transfer mechanics show us daily that more information can be transferred with less bandwidth than was previously thought possible. Cell-phone pictures from afar are just one example of such data-compression technology at work. An even easier example is found in the macro's many of us use on our computers. In them, one key stroke produces an exotic result. Our brains can surely be susceptible to the same sort of programming, where our preparation for the transfer of information in deep meditation leads to one bit of information producing a whole picture or information dump. The beauty of using the phase-coded waveform approach is that it makes the meditation experience easily explainable to those not initiated into the wonders of (unprovable) string theories.

Gavin and Yvonne Frost seem to have been around forever. They have written over 30 books, published in five languages, and they are always at the cutting edge of modern occult philosophy. Their School of Wicca* has taught tens of thousands of students both basic meditation and astral travel. For some years they taught pro-active stress management on cruise ships. It is almost impossible to judge fully the impact of these two approachable, controversial, and candid writers and speakers. They are uniquely qualified to speak about an aspect of internal stress and meditation often overlooked.
