Personal growth sometimes, or what seems like most of the times, is difficult at best. Do we really control the situations in our lives and what happen to us on a daily basis. Or are we just merely mortal victims of an every changing world of mishaps and good and bad situations. I am often asked if by either prayer or affirmations can we change the course of events in our lives. The answer is of course you can. You can't change the weather or the events that occur daily in nature. But you can change how you perceive them and how they affect you.

Some people believe that because of what we did in our past lives we are now being punished in this life, Karma. They profoundly believe that we have no control over future events, they are our destiny. Modern scholars and Metaphycians believe that this is not true. I too believe that nothing from past lives has any power to effect us in the present. Events don't have power, people do.

Our imagination and mind are very powerful and what we believe to be true becomes. If you believe that you need to be punished for past endeavors then you will create scenarios in your life, either consciously or unconsciously, to hurt and punish yourself. Events that happen in life are not dictated  by some disjointed imaginary supernatural power that is keeping score. They are created by man's own actions. Example global warming, war, etc.

I realize that there are many who will say that life is a lesson and it truly is. But a lesson for growth and wisdom, not for retribution. After you fall down a flight of stairs hopefully you will learn the lesson to be careful the next time. Falling down a flight of stairs is not a ordained punishment, it is a miscalculation of footing on the staircase. When a child dies of cancer or is killed by some crazed individual, do we say that they deserved to die because of what they did 1000 years ago in another life? If you believe it is a punishment because of what they did do in another life, then we should set free form jail all the rapist, murders and thieves because they were only doing what was prescribed from another life. This sounds more crazy to me then anything else.

It has become fashionable to blame past lives for stupid things we do in this life. Many say that their life is unsettling and there is nothing they can do about it because of "Karma." To me this is a cop-out. Often people who hold to this belief are mostly lazy and will not put in the time and effort to achieve a better life. They can't or won't admit that they are doing something wrong, but this is the very factor that causes their life to be out of balance.

There are many things that we aspire to accomplish, but for some reason the execution remain quite difficult. It is better to be mindful of the right intention and be aware of how difficult they are then to just give up and say that you are a victim of Karma.

There are ways to make difficult things easier. Admit that you are wrong. Nearly all of us find it difficult to admit we were wrong. It stems from a false belief that we somehow always expect ourselves to be right. Part of the problem is our pride. We feel embarrassed to admit we get things wrong; we feel it somehow diminishes our own standing. But, to admit we were wrong is a sign of strength, flexibility and humility. People will never think ill of us simply because we admit to making a mistake. The mind's insistence on trying to justify everything we do merely creates problems for ourselves and others. We need to change our mindset and be happy to admit to mistakes without feelings of guilt or humbled pride.

Don't judge others based merely on your own likes and dislikes. We judge people on their appearance, on what they say. Accept people based on who they are on the inside not what they are wearing or how they look on the outside.

Except constructive criticism with an open mind, it is an excellent opportunity for learning and self-development. Don't feel threatened by another's opinion
People love to receive praise but struggle to deal with criticism.

Life is a challenge and becoming miserable does not help, it only makes the situation more difficult. Remaining happy and joyful in difficult circumstances are great tools and offer great benefits. Cheerfulness can overcome many obstacles and help us to see the light at the end of a dark tunnel even in seemingly difficult times.

Lastly don't try to change every aspect of your life at once. Discover and focus on the main problem in your life that is causing all the other problems and fix this one. You will see then all the rest of your problems will magically fix themselves.

Go out into the world and each and every day and make memories to have a treasure for life.
