What is an RSS Feed and how do I use it?

RSS, or "Real Simple Syndication", is a format for syndicating news and news-like web content. It is commonly used in major news sites such as BBC News and Wired, but is also used largely by the weblog community to syndicate personal weblogs. The advatange that RSS feeds have over webpages is that content that is not updated on a regular basis (such as event postings) can be automaticly checked by a users RSS-reader, and information can be delivered as soon as it is available.

RSS readers and RSS-aware programs are often called news aggregators. Besides being downloadable applications, some webportals also allow users to add RSS content to personalized news pages that can be set as the default homepage of a users browser.
